Rescue crews in the Philippines grappled with washed-out roads, downed power lines and poor communications in search of hundreds of people missing after a typhoon that killed more than 300. |
Typhoon Pablo is proving to be the deadliest storm so far this year.
The death toll has reached 322 with over 250 still missing. Most of the
fatalities are in the provinces of Compostela Valley and Davao Oriental.
One of the hardest hit areas is New Bataan, Compostela Valley, where scores of residents were killed by flash floods. Among the fatalities were soldiers responding to the storm.
More than hundred people are dead in Davao Oriental, where typhoon Pablo made its first landfall. Many areas there remain isolated after a major bridge gave way.
